***UPDATE 03/03/25 - The consultation is now active and runs for 6 weeks to 14 April 2025.***
Before the dust has settled on the last Regulation 18 public consultation on the draft Local Plan, there’s going to be another one!
The last consultation closed on 12 January this year and Basildon council have now given approval for there to be another consultation on elements that were either left out of the previous consultation, or where policies have changed.
Basildon Borough Local Plan Consultation 2 (as its being called) will start on Monday 3 March.

Whilst it is good that residents are being given another chance to comment on important aspects of the Local Plan it is frustrating that the details are coming in drips and drabs making it very difficult to get a full view of what’s being proposed and comment accordingly. Many key items are still missing, such as a highways impact assessment, an infrastructure delivery plan and a viability assessment, so we can expect (and should demand) further consultation.
The new consultation will cover the following areas. Other than the very specific policies regarding Basildon Town Centre, the others will apply to development right across the borough.
Some of these are potentially emotive concerning the provision of social housing and traveller pitches.
