 | On Saturday Oct 4th, with rain forecast by lunchtime, a few BAG supporters bravely set up their stall outside Belcher’s, the South Green butcher who had very kindly allowed us to use their frontage - moving rapidly under the canopy of the Post Office when the heavens opened late morning. Saturday’s organiser Norman Lamb said “The strong community spirit was evident in the way local residents drew in their friends to listen, learn and support us. |
We have a feeling that in such a strong community ‘word of mouth’ will prove significant in spreading the word about BAG and its objectives”.
During a very successful, if slightly damp day 144 signatures were collected indicating support for BAG with approaching 200 copies our newsletter “MailBAG:” handed out. Email addresses gathered will enable us to provide information on the evolution of the Local Plan 2031 and our position on each of the issues this raises.
BAG supporter Steve Ford said “I went along and it was great to see that people are interested and put themselves out to find out what it's all about”.
We appreciated the support from Great Burstead residents who are facing an application to build on green belt land at the west end of Church Street: they have invited BAG supporters to add their objections to the proposal (REF: 14/01059/FULL) and we are delighted to assist their resistance.
We’re also pleased to say that in addition to Spa Cottage you can now pick up a printed copy of “MailBAG:” from the South Green Post Office - as well as read a copy in Billericay Library and at the Queens Park Co-op.

| All in all a very successful day - with the BAG Roadshow now having visited The High Street, Queens Park and South Green - and still we’re finding that people are unaware of the threat to our green belt from Basildon’s plans.
