BAG Response to Issues & Option Consultation 2023
In summer 2023 Basildon council held an Issues & Options public consultation for the new Local Plan. This was the first public step on the road to an adopted Local Plan; a process currently expected to take until 2027.
The consultation and the responses submitted online can be found here;

Our understanding is that Basildon council aims to publish the results of the consultation early in 2024. The expectation being that the comments made will be used to inform the first draft of the Local Plan which is due by the end of 2024 based on the current published time table as below

Billericay Action Group (BAG) submitted a comprehensive response document to the consultation that can be viewed or downloaded here;

We also shared the document with all of the borough's councilors with this covering letter.
"I’m writing to share the Billericay Action Group response to the recent “Issues and Options” consultation, which was intended to give the public a chance to shape our next Local Plan before it’s drafted.
Our aim is to protect the Green Belt around Billericay (and by extension the rest of the borough) so while much of it is focussed on Billericay, much of the rest, (for instance our case for not meeting the advisory government “OAN” housing needs algorithm) is directly or indirectly applicable to the borough as a whole.
We hope to empower councillors who prefer - be that to a greater or lesser extent - to moderate housing growth to protect the Green Belt.
It’s a lengthy document that you may find helpful to retain as a reference, or to dip into sections of greatest interest to you. We are of course happy to chat through, clarify or elaborate on any part of this. Broadly speaking, the document looks forward, rather than back, and generally doesn’t look at specific former housing proposals.
We make the case for moderated growth, and also set out some general principles for mitigating the harm if you do use some Green Belt sites. This is done by setting out some general principles for selecting locations (avoiding the worst sites), and some general principles for what we think to be good design."

We would like to thank Alasdair Daw for all the hard work in compiling the BAG response document.
