After months of no activity, but as we suspected, Basildon Council is effectively planning to go back to the very beginning when it comes to the next version of the Local Plan.
The recently published agenda for the Cabinet meeting on 8 September 2022 shows that a new timetable is being set out in a revised Local Development Scheme (LDS).
In summary;
There will also be a new call for sites to identify potential development land, although we believe that every field around Billericay has been offered up already! This highlights that the council really is going back to the start with the new Local Plan.
The recently published agenda for the Cabinet meeting on 8 September 2022 shows that a new timetable is being set out in a revised Local Development Scheme (LDS).
In summary;
- An Issues & Options Regulation 18 public consultation at the end of this year.
- A Draft Plan Regulation 18 public consultation in 2024.
- A final Publication Local Plan Regulation 19 public consultation in 2025
- An aim to have the new Local Plan adopted at the end of 2027.
There will also be a new call for sites to identify potential development land, although we believe that every field around Billericay has been offered up already! This highlights that the council really is going back to the start with the new Local Plan.
Of the above steps, the Issues & Options public consultation later this year is highly important as it will give residents the chance to make their views known at an early stage before a draft Local Plan is produced. This did not happen last time and we very much welcome what looks to be a more inclusive approach now, and an opportunity to influence the final outcome.
We will of course provide much more information ahead of the consultation but we will need a big response from residents again to tell the council what we want to see in the new Local Plan. We should embrace the opportunity to do so.
All the relevant documents about the new Local Development Scheme can be found through the website link below. Please note that no details of what will be in the new Local Plan have been published yet. Its a blank sheet of paper for now. It's far to early to speculate on the content.
