Basildon council response to your comments on the Local Plan

Basildon Council's response to your Consultation comments is now beginning to appear. You can read a draft of the proposed report here;
http://www.basildonmeetings.info/…/Enc.%202%20-%20Draft%20L…
This has not yet been agreed by the Council but Phil Turner's comments reported in the Echo on Friday 9th September may be taken as a guide to its status.
The key points are;
45% of those who responded came from Billericay. That's around 1700 people, so well done everyone.
Your comments on the housing sites have generally been ignored; in their words "With some exceptions, comments received have not given rise to any new concerns in relation to the proposed development sites." So it looks like all 9 sites will go ahead.
80% of all those who responded across the Borough disagreed with the proposed scale of new house building. In response Basildon Council has made the following new proposals Billericay;
They are looking to build almost 1000 extra houses to the west of our town;
They are reconsidering the land near to Outwood Common Road for housing - this was PADC14 in an earlier draft but removed from the plan we commented upon;
They mention 3 new sites in the Great Burstead/South Green area but don't say where or how big;
They also refer to the need to identify land for Traveller sites in Billericay.
Essentially they are considering doubling the number of houses to be built around our town.
There is also little to encourage us, that our concerns about the impact of such extensive new house building on our already creaking infrastructure have been addressed.
Watch this space for further information.

We feel that the council, especially Taylor, has had no intention of looking at what the people of Billericay want. Billericay is the best town to provide finances and we will no longer be a country town but much more like a city when they are finished. The problem is that we feel so helpless!
