The BAG Autumn meeting was a great success in the packed Stable Bar of the Red Lion Pub.  Thanks to everyone who attended and a warm welcome to the new supporters whom we met for the first time.

Members of the Coordination Team summarised our successes to date and outline our plans for the future. Councillor Adam explained his reasons for contesting for the vacancy on Billericay Town Council, recalled the excitement of the count and reinforced the message that if you don't try you can't win.

Recent unfounded attacks by Phil Turner were discussed and the seeming lack of any meaningful representation of the wishes of the residents of Billericay on Basildon Town Council highlighted.  Our treasurer explained the need to begin building funds for the future and proudly announced our new Paypal account.  Our plan for the next 12 months was outlined and we even had a poem.

'I  would like to thank you for a very informative evening. Its great to know that there are lots of other people appalled at the lack of dialogue between the councils and the residents of Billericay and the wider area relating to proposed plans to build thousands of houses in the local area.' - Rob Kirby, Local Resident
A lively Question and Answer session produced a number of useful suggestions for increasing the visibility of the group.  The next few weeks will see the final stage of our leaflet delivery exercise, with over 7000 homes to be visited and and an event at South Green is also planned.

For those who are interested or didn't attend a copy of the presentation (including photos taken by local residents) can be down loaded from this page.

Following the success of this event another will be held in a few months time, so see you all then for our Winter update.

Thank you to the Red Lion pub for hosting the event, a great, friendly venue.

    Aims of BAG

To protect the Green Belt around Billericay and elsewhere in Basildon Borough from loss through excessive and unjustified development.

To prevent the character of our historic towns from being changed forever.

To ensure that any development that does take place is sustainable, with adequate infrastructure and prioritises local needs.

We support the need for a new Basildon Local Plan and the need for more housing. But it must be of the right number, the right type and in the right places to best help local people obtain a home of their own.
