Regulation 19 - Your response does count!

After having resided in Billericay for over 42 years and bringing a family up in this area we are very angry that this lovely town and surrounding and its surroundings are being swamped with houses. Many these houses are apparently being built on Green Belt land that we were all told was never to be used for development, this is absolutely despicable behaviour on the part of the council to even have considered this as being of being of benefit to anyone as it seems they are not even 'affordable' unless you are a wealthy person!
The apparent lack of infrastructure such as Schools, Hospitals, Transport, Car Parking etc. makes this plan even more ridiculous as Billericay is not exactly overflowing with these vital services as it is. The proposed alterations to surrounding roads look as well thought out as the slip roads from the A127 to Billericay and Basildon that have caused many collisions so far thankfully minor.
I hope that this whole project is rejected on the basis of common sense prevailing as this if it were to ever go ahead will ruin the quality of life for not only existing residents such as us but will leave an ugly scar on Billericay and its surroundings for generations.

As a Billericay resident of 22 years I’m not against expansion and growth. However this growth needs to be planned and executed carefully, terms which are plainly missing currently. Show me the plans for new schools, doctors and travel and I may then change my mind. As for ‘affordable housing’, don’t make me laugh! Until then this farce needs to be abandoned before it’s too late.

Whilst accepting the need for some development, the infrastructure improvements are wholly inadequate in relation to the proposed plan. The Council's own parking study confirms what residents already know - the current provision is at capacity. It also accepts that another level at the Station is unlikely to improve matters much.

The SW "Relief Road" will help the developers but will create problems elsewhere. In essence it will become a ring road. The Council's own transport report quite correctly states that it will " divert traffic from the Town Centre" This means traffic will funnel down the relief road to London Road and those heading for the station, industrial areas and Chelmsford will go right and then left down Mountnessing Road to the hazardous railway bridge and Gooseberry Green roundabout. Already congestion develops at this point in the rush hour and the proposed new housing estate exits onto this road 200yards before the bridge. I predict carnage at this point, especially when the bridge freezes over, as it did quite often last winter.

Unlike our MP and local councillors, BAG is offering excellent support to local residents on the issues - we must all reply to the final consultation and this site is most useful when you make your response

I don't believe that anyone is unaware that we need additional housing in the UK. However, with housing comes the responsibility to provide infrastructure to support the new residents. Adding a couple of new roads does not meet this responsibility. The trains are already overcrowded, parking is a nightmare, and getting worse whenever new permit schemes are introduced, the local health services are stretched, as are the schools. It's already chaotic driving anywhere during peak times, so this will only exacerbate the problem for people trying to get to work. So, how will all these issues be resolved? What new health services will be introduced (doctors, dentists, clinics), how many new schools will be built, where will additional parking be sited, and what is planned to introduce additional train services to cater for the increased population? However, if this is just a way of increasing council tax income, I assume that all these issues will be totally ignored, and the ensuing strain on local resources will just have to be carried on the shoulders of the residents who you are supposedly elected to represent.

    Aims of BAG

To protect the Green Belt around Billericay and elsewhere in Basildon Borough from loss through excessive and unjustified development.

To prevent the character of our historic towns from being changed forever.

To ensure that any development that does take place is sustainable, with adequate infrastructure and prioritises local needs.

We support the need for a new Basildon Local Plan and the need for more housing. But it must be of the right number, the right type and in the right places to best help local people obtain a home of their own.
