As a result of the 4 May local ward elections, we should assume that plans to hold a ‘Issues & Options’ public consultation on the next Local Plan will continue.
We expect that this will be on the agenda for the next full Council meeting currently scheduled for the 25th May and if approved the consultation could start late June and run for 8 weeks.
The consultation will be a formal part of the Local Plan process under something called Regulation 18. However, the Council isn’t obliged to hold such an early public consultation so we should embrace the fact that they are taking the time and effort to solicit views from residents and other interested parties at this stage.
This will be a high level consultation on broad themes and will discuss key matters like housing numbers, the most appropriate places to build (generally not specifically) and the sort of houses we need. But there will be no sites up for discussion at this stage. That level of detail will come next year with the first draft of the Local Plan. We therefore have a chance to influence now.
Please stand ready. We would like to see a big response to the consultation and we will do what we can to provide advice and guidance. But the bottom line is that individuals need to make themselves heard so please be prepared to take part.
We plan to put information on here and our Facebook Group.
