The BDRA want to hear your voice?

Are you a member of the Billericay District Residents’ Association? This month’s Resident magazine contains an article on the draft Local Plan. Do you believe Billericay can take 1740 new houses? Do you agree Green Belt land should be used to build the homes ? Is there enough information in the Plan about the extra school places which will be needed? Is there enough information about the impact on GP and hospital services? Is one new roundabout, the conversion of a one way street into a two way street and a few other changes to the roads around the town sufficient to cope with the 3500 extra cars?

What you need to do

The BDRA Executive Committee would like to hear your views on the Plan before they decide how to respond on your behalf to Basildon Council. To let them know email resident@bdra.org by 19 February.

Remember, even if you do tell the BDRA how you feel about the plan you also need to let Basildon Council know as well. In the coming weeks BAG will help you to do just that, so keep visiting this page and the billericayactiongroup.org.uk website for the latest updates.

I am very concerned about all the green belt being used,it is the "lungs" of the community Everybody knows that the infrastructure in this area cannot sustain all these extra houses. The schools are full, doctor's surgeries are always full now. We have to wait months for a hospital appointment.

The Draft Plan doesn't want 1740 new houses for Billericay as suggested here. Those are just the 93.5% of them in our Green Belt. The Draft Plan gives us 1860 new homes.

I am concerned not only at the loss of green belt but also the additional traffic through the town. It is bad enough now at rush hour trying to get through the high street without adding more vehicles. The police station is shut and there are not enough Pcsos on duty now to look after the population. Parking is a problem in the high street and most residential roads look like car parks . Pollution will increase and the beauty and wildlife of Billericay will be decimated. I came to live here to get away from overcrowded roads and tons of cars.

The Draft Plan alters its figures so that sometimes it refers to Billericay (with the 2 Bursteads, and the 2 Ramsdens), Wickford (with Nevendon), and Basildon (with Bowers Gifford and Dunton) and sometimes not. The total housing allocated for Billericay with the 2 Bursteads, and the 2 Ramsdens is 1,950.
The figure of 93% of Green Belt to be used for housing applies to Billericay and Gt. Burstead only.
