I have lived in Billericay all of my 58 years & have seen many changes. Mostly due to over building so therefore over population. A lot of the green belt areas have already gone to housing development so I am all for protecting what we have left.

I strongly believe that these houses will be a big detriment to Billericay.
So many houses on top of an already stretched infrastructure; with our railway at capacity or over, traffic building daily, schools which I could barely get my daughter into even though she is a sibling in catchment, doctors surgery where I always have to get an out-of-hours appointment for my children past their bedtime in Basildon because they have no appmts left.
I also struggle to understand how our wonderful green belt and wildlife can just be ignored and looked at as a building site.
Billericay is such a wonderful town, our children are safe and happy but by adding so many houses will mean that this is under a lot of jeopardy with more polution, children not getting into school that their siblings are in, less wildlife, more traffic, more drain on resources and a lot of new people being brought to the area who may not love it and care for it as much as we do. Also the high street and car parks are already bursting!
Local residents love living in Billericay because it's bigger than a village but not as big as a town. This many houses will mean that Billericay will turn more town like and merge into Hutton and Basildon. I foresee people moving out over time and house prices dropping because house prices are inevitably not as steep in larger towns (Chelmsford for example).
I strongly object to the building of these houses

We will not be as able to meet the demands of the children needing schooling once the population grows!
Our green belt us shrinking as it is and local fields and grass areas a thing of the past!
Billericay will not be able to deal with the influx in people inviting crime to increase!

Unless there are some serious infrastructure changes and this pre-thought I can't see how Billericay will cope with an additional 1,700+ houses. It's easy to put up the houses but what about the community and the people that live in the town and those proposed to live there? Has nothing been learnt from all the other housing estate disasters. And why do we even have the term green belt if it's all just ignored and built on any way?

Billericay is bursting, there are no classroom spaces, the roads are congested at rush hour (takes me at least 25 minutes to travel a mile), the parking is full. Where exactly are the resources for all the extra people? how is such a small town going to cope?

    Aims of BAG

To protect the Green Belt around Billericay and elsewhere in Basildon Borough from loss through excessive and unjustified development.

To prevent the character of our historic towns from being changed forever.

To ensure that any development that does take place is sustainable, with adequate infrastructure and prioritises local needs.

We support the need for a new Basildon Local Plan and the need for more housing. But it must be of the right number, the right type and in the right places to best help local people obtain a home of their own.
