The first public consultation for the new Basildon Local Plan can be found at the website below. You simply need an email address to register to take part.
We strongly encourage all residents to participate. It is an opportunity to shape the Local Plan at an early stage before any sites have been selected.
It’s a long consultation but please don’t be put off. Please bear the following in mind.
1. You have 10 weeks to submit your comments. The consultation ends 5 September. There is no immediate rush!
2. You can dip in and out of the consultation. It doesn’t have to be completed in one go.
3. You don’t have to answer all the questions. Just complete the sections or questions that are of most interest to you.
4. The consultation has been broken down into short chapters called ‘tiles’ to make it more readable. Consider reading one tile at a time and completing the associated questions.
5. Many questions simply need boxes to be ticked or comments to be put into a preferred order. They are quick and easy to do.
6. Some questions are freeform text and require a bit more thought but none are very difficult.
7. Try to take a positive approach and say what you’d like to see in the Local Plan rather than saying no to everything.
8. Try not to name specific locations for future development. Be generic and talk about brownfield or Green Belt, rural or urban.
9. Ignore the last (withdrawn) Local Plan. This is a new plan and a new start.
10. The Local Plan is more than just where houses will be built. Consider the needs for employment, infrastructure, green spaces and the environment.
Within the next week we will provide some advice and guidance on how to answer the questions, or specifically the ones that we believe are most crucial.
But please take a look now, and post any questions or observations you have on here.
History has shown that residents can make a difference when it comes to the Local Plan. It’s now time to prove that once again.
