The Local Plan consultation - where are we now?

13/10/2016

Following the consultation back in the Spring Basildon Council has completed its bureaucratic processes and is now considering changes to the Local Plan. 96% of the responses came from residents while the remaining 4% came from, for instance, landowners and developers.  45% of the responses, around 1700, came from Billericay residents.
Having received your comments, our Council has paid little regard to them and we now face a greater problem for Billericay.
All selected development sites comprising 15,260 new homes (1,860 in Billericay) remain in the Plan. Furthermore in Billericay:
  • In the south west of the town (H20-23), they are investigating plans to almost double the number of houses, from 970 to 1920.
  • They are considering 3 new sites in Great Burstead, although do not say where or how big.  However, as the smallest site in the draft Plan was 70 houses this could amount to around 300 more new houses.
  • They are reconsidering the land at Outwood Common Road for housing.  This was known as PADC14 in the 2014 draft Local Plan but was designated a Wildlife Corridor in the latest plan.  This was originally destined to provide over 400 new houses.
  • At Potash Road (H19) they accept that some of the land they proposed for housing isn’t available, but have found a bit more land nearby and will just redraw the boundaries.
In total the proposals now being considered could almost double the number of new houses built in Billericay. Meanwhile there is negligible assured provision of new Infrastructure.

While Billericay requires small new properties for rent; I doubt any of these are council, nor housing association. Billericay already has school place problems, long GP lists and traffic and parking issues....these issues must be addressed first. Properties must be in keeping with the area; and pls no anti social behaviour

Our town of Billericay will look like another Basildon.
We haven't got enough schools for all the new intake of children.
Our roads will be full of cars so there will be no more peace and quiet. Most people in Billericay don't want any houses to be built.

the problem is the council seem to ignore what residents really want, I'm fed up with this so I will be standing at the next election, to make a stand to show that the people making the decisions are elected by the people and should carry out the peoples wishes.
